Chunk Runner was a project I worked on alongside two good friends of mine, (and talented builders) iWacky and FantomLX. The map was at one point on Minecraft Realms as well, but unfortunately was taken down due to being outdated (from the changes made in 1.13+).
So what is Chunk Runner?
Chunk Runner is a parkour minigame map I worked on back in 2016 and released to Java and Minecraft Realms. You can actually download the Java version on my website here! The idea of the game involves a parkour course that expands in one direction, but dissolves behind you as you run. A chunk (being 16 blocks) will be processed, and when the next row appears, the last row vanishes!
In the original map, my friends and I put together about 75 different custom parkour levels that were all built inside a 32x32x32 cube. The map's main features included high scores, kits, an experience and level system, and custom playing speeds.
So what's new?
The new version of Chunk Runner that is being developed is going to have quite a few new features. I intend to spoil a few of them since you clicked into this post and are reading through, but I'll keep some of them quiet for now!
The main features of this new version are:
- Over 200 custom parkours
- Around 25 custom kits
- Tunnels
- An experience and ticket currency system
- "Roadmaps"
- Custom user-built parkour support
- And more!
"Roadmaps"
Roadmaps are a new idea that will be tried in this map. Think of the classic Super Mario World level maps, where you have to clear levels 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3 before eventually tackling the boss fight. This base idea is the inspiration behind Roadmaps, which (when completed) will unlock tunnels!
Tunnels
Tunnels are a new idea I came up with after playing the original Chunk Runner over a barren void thinking things were quite boring (in terms of the skymap). To solve this, I created the idea of "tunnels" which change that dynamic. Think of tunnels as long wormholes filled with vibrant scenery and terrain to keep the levels fun.
At this time, there are 15 finished tunnels. One will be unlocked at the start of the map, and the rest will be locked behind Roadmaps as mentioned before. Here are a couple more pictures of the tunnels, but keep in mind I want to keep the majority of these secret for now!
Custom Parkours
I won't say much on this topic, but I will let you know that you will be able to use a sandbox to build your own courses which can be used in the map...
I'll be sure to keep you all posted on this project. Recently we suffered a delay due to a data-related issue. I might be picking up a secondary project for now while I wait on final builds for this one!
I hope everyone is excited for this remake!
